VERRUCA NEEDLING

The stubborn verruca, met with a smarter approach.

Tried the gels, the freezing sprays, the home remedies, and still no joy? Verruca needling recruits your own immune system to clear the verruca from within. A proven, minimally invasive treatment, carried out with care.

WHAT IT IS

An evidence-based answer to verrucae that won't budge

Verrucae (plantar warts) are benign growths caused by the human papillomavirus (HPV) infecting the outer layer of skin on the feet. The virus is remarkably good at evading the body's immune defences — which is precisely why these lesions can linger for years and shrug off ordinary treatment.

Needling, first described by Falknor in 1969, takes a fine sterile needle to repeatedly puncture the verruca. This breaks it down and creates a controlled microtrauma that triggers the body's immune response. Viral material is pushed into the deeper layers of skin, where the immune system can finally recognise it as foreign and mount an attack to clear it.

WHY PATIENTS CHOOSE IT

Four reasons needling stands apart

01

A strong success rate

In the largest published case series of Falknor's method, 69% of patients showed complete resolution, even where treatments like cryotherapy had already failed.

02

Usually one session

Unlike acid or freezing that need repeated weekly visits, needling is typically a one-time procedure, fewer appointments, less disruption to your week.

03

Can clear untreated verrucae

Because it wakes a whole-body immune response, needling can resolve multiple verrucae at once. Often only the largest or most painful one needs treating.

04

Comfortable & minimally invasive

The procedure is performed under local anaesthetic in a clinical setting, so the area is fully numbed throughout.

69%

COMPLETE RESOLUTION AFTER NEEDLING

In the largest published case series using Falknor's method, 31 of 45 patients showed complete resolution of their verrucae, with a further three showing reduced size and pain. No adverse events were noted.

YOUR APPOINTMENT

What happens on the day

1

Assessment first
We begin with a thorough assessment to confirm the diagnosis and check that needling is the right choice for you.

2

Numbing the area
The area is cleansed and a local anaesthetic is administered, so it's completely numb before we begin.

3

The needling
Using a sterile needle, the verruca tissue is repeatedly punctured, breaking it down and prompting the immune response.

4

Dressed & protected
A simple dry dressing is applied, to be kept dry for at least 24 hours. As your foot will still be numb, please plan not to drive straight afterwards.

RECOVERY

Aftercare made simple

Most people find recovery straightforward. We'll give you full written aftercare guidance on the day, but here's what to expect.

Rest & elevate
Rest with your feet elevated for the first couple of hours at home. This helps the blood clot and promotes healing.

Mild tenderness
Some discomfort may be felt for one to two days once the anaesthetic wears off, but this usually settles quickly.

What's normal
A little bleeding through the dressing, and a red or brown discolouration under the skin, simply dried blood, are both completely normal.

Pain relief
We'll advise on suitable pain relief and ask you to avoid certain anti-inflammatory and aspirin-based products around your treatment.

Seeing results
We'll arrange a follow-up to monitor healing and check your progress. Most patients begin to see results within two to four weeks, as the immune response does its work.

IS IT RIGHT FOR ME?

Honest advice, every step of the way

Needling is especially suited to adults with stubborn, painful or long-standing verrucae that haven't responded to first-line treatments. A consultation lets us assess your verruca, your medical history and your suitability, and talk you through your options openly, never any judgement.

A note on expectations
As with every verruca treatment, no approach can guarantee a cure, verrucae are unpredictable and individual results vary. What we can promise is a careful, evidence-led approach and genuine care throughout.
